Official Start of 2010 Hurricane Season

June 1st marks the official start of the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season.  Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville has officially set Port Hurricane Condition IV (Seasonal Alert) for the ports of Jacksonville, Fernandina Beach, and Port Canaveral.

All port interests are encouraged to make sure plans are up-to-date and ready for execution.  Several important documents and links are available on the JMTX website as part of our Hurricane Info webpage.  This includes the 2010 Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Heavy Weather Plan.  The full plan contains 166 pages of information and is recommended reading for our port interests.  However, the JMTX recommends printing and keeping available throughout the season a copy of Chapter 3 of the plan that addresses Port Preparedness and Post Storm Actions.  This 16 page extract includes the specific actions that must be completed by port interests during each change of Port Hurricane Conditions.  JMTX also recommends having copies Annex F - Vessel Sortie Guidelines,  Annex H - The remain in Port request forms and Annex N Post Storm Condition Reporting forms.

Updated Hurricane Plan Available

The 2010 update to the Coast Guard Heavy Weather Plan is now available on the web at both the Coast Guard's Homeport website and here on the JMTX site (see below or the Library webpage)

We have extracted Chapter 3 of the plan as well as the Vessel Sortie Guidelines (Annex F), Remain in Port Request (Annex H) and the Post Storm Damage Survey Forms (Annex N) for those who just want that specific information.
